2015-09-28 21.47.542 Grade 12 students are learning American sign language as part of an independent study project. Their teacher is a community member who has kindly volunteered to give them a 7 week course followed by helping them to prepare for an evaluation of what they have learned.

There is already lots going on with Connecting Generations this year, enough for several posts..!

The GISS intergenerational Writers’ Group started a new project, Strong On The Inside this week, funded by the B.C. Arts Council, the Salt Spring Arts Council and SD 64 and with art materials provided by Opus Supplies in Victoria and refreshments offered by Country Grocer. 9 youth and 4 adults attended our first meeting.

Adolescent Health in SD 64

Annie Smith, E.D. of the McCreary Centre Society visited Salt Spring in May to discuss the results of the most recent Adolescent Health Survey of youth in School District 64. As a member of the newly-formed Health and Wellness Committee for SD 64, Connecting Generations offers a way for youth to build on their resilience through intergenerational conversations.
